I McFly nascono da un'idea iniziale di Tom Fletcher.Inrealtà i quattro ragazzi non si conoscevano affatto prima di formare la band. Tom, già esperto in canzoni e in band (per la collaborazione con i Busted), aveva indetto una selezione in uno studio di Londra. Qui si sono presentati Danny Jones, Harry Judd e Dougie Poynter.
E' scattata subito la complicità fra i 4,come si può constatare anche adesso dai loro live. Nel 2004 hanno lanciato l'album Room On The Third Floor che con i suoi singoli é salito in vetta alle classifiche britanniche. Nel 2005 hanno rilasciato Wonderland con i singoli 'I'll Be Ok' e 'All About You'.
In questo anno hanno anche filmato il concerto di Manchester per il Wonderland Tour DVD.
Nel 2006 hanno interpretato una band esordiente nel film di Lidsay Lohan Just My Luck- Baciati Dalla Sfortuna. A fine 2006 hanno pubblicato il loro terzo album Motion In The Ocean che comprende il singolo 'Please Please'. Nel 2007 dopo il singolo ‘The Heart Never Lies’, hanno pubblicato Greatest Hits. Quest’ultimo conteneva anche tre nuove canzoni: ‘The Heart Never Lies’, ‘The Way You Look At Me’ e ‘Don't Wake Me Up'. Oltre all’album è stato pubblicato anche il DVD contenente un intero concerto, tutti i video da loro registrati fono ad adesso, e un simpatico 'Dietro le Quinte'.
A inizio 2008 è uscito il loro ultimo Album All The Greatest Hits.
Ora aspettiamo l’uscita dell’ultimo singolo 'One for the Radio'.

Nato il 12 Marzo 1986. E' il chitarrista nonché [splendida] voce della band. Il suo cantante preferito é Bruce Springsteen. Guida una Mini Cooper.
♫♪Tom Fletcher♫♪
Nato il 17 Luglio 1985. E' anche lui chitarrista e voce. Scrive la maggior parte delle canzoni e in passato ha collaborato con James Bourne per le canzoni dei Busted.
♫♪Harry Judd♫♪
Nato il 23 Dicembre 1985. Batterista della band. Alcune delle sue band preferite sono: i Green Day, i Blink 182, The Used, The Doors, New Found Glory, The Starting Line [insomma, abbiamo capito i suoi gusti...]. Gli altri componenti dicono che qualunque ragazza lui voglia, la ottiene, basta che la guardi e lui la conquista.

Nato il 30 Novembre 1987. Il più giovane della band suona il basso ed é seconda voce. Recentemente ha però cantato da 'prima voce' le canzoni scritte da lui: Silence Is A Scary Sound e Transylvania. La sua band preferita sono i Blink 182 e Tom Delonge é il suo idolo. A scuola era considerato un perdente, finché, ovviamente, non é entrato nei McFly.

Allora, hanno cominciato a registrare il loro quarto album e a quanto si può capire da questa intervista fatta a Dougie, sono in Australia a farlo.
"Wicked Life of Boy Rockers
McFly are promising fire, explosions and nudity when their live show hits Newcastle. Daniel Thomson talks to bassist Dougie Poynter.
IT is easy to be dismissive of McFly, but they’re not your average boy band.
“I don’t think people realise we’re a real band, which can be frustrating sometimes,” says Dougie Poynter.
“We function like a rock band, taking months out to write and record songs, but have to market ourselves like a boy band, doing all the TV shows and magazines.
“In a lot of ways, we do the work of a boy band as well as a rock band. We put in double the effort and people are still very dismissive sometimes.”
The tens of thousands of screaming girls must make up for it though, right?
“Oh yeah,” Dougie laughs. “It can be a bit weird sometimes, but there are no real downsides to having thousands of girls screaming your name.
“It’s great and we absolutely love our fans. They’ve been really good to us.”
McFly recently released their greatest hits. Does this mean a parting of ways is on the cards? “No way. Releasing the greatest hits wasn’t our idea. If we had our way, we would have just done another album instead, but it wasn’t our decision. It’s in our record contract.
“We’re actually going out to Australia to record the new album early next year. It’s going to be a lot of fun.”
Since they formed in 2004, McFly, whose other members include Tom Fletcher, Danny Jones and Harry Judd, have had an extremely impressive 13 Top 10 hits and a string of successful albums. They even surpassed The Beatles to become the youngest band to have a debut album enter at number one. “I take full credit for that,” Dougie laughs cheekily. “I’m the youngest member of the band, so I brought the average age right down.”
The 19-year-old says it is difficult to pick out highlights from the past four years because it has all been “wicked”, but adds that the band’s trip to Uganda for Comic Relief was an incredible experience.
“It was also great to be on the set of a Hollywood movie when we filmed Just My Luck with Lindsay Lohan. Although I doubt we’ll be doing another movie any time soon.”
I haven’t seen the film, so I have to ask Dougie, was it really that bad?
“No, the movie’s all right. It was us. Our acting was awful, which was pretty amazing considering we were playing ourselves.”
Dougie’s Just My Luck co-star Chris Pine has reportedly been cast as Captain James T Kirk in the new Star Trek movie being made by Lost co-creator JJ Abrams. Any chance of McFly going into space? “Pinesy is going to be Kirk? I didn’t know that. That’s wicked.”
McFly will be at Newcastle’s Metro Radio Arena on Saturday and Dougie is promising a spectacular night for fans.
“We haven’t done an arena tour in a while, so we’re all really up for it. There’s going to be fire, explosions, and we’ll probably get naked, so I can guarantee it’ll be fun.
“We love getting involved in designing the live shows. The only problem is that we’re always trying to outdo ourselves, but our fans can rest assured the new show is going to be bigger and better than ever.”

Tom annuncia che verrà realizzato un DVD durante la notte d apertura delle loro 26 date del Greatest Hits Tour in Wolverhampton che verrà realizzato entro il 3 Dicembre insieme a 18 video e un bel pò di foto.
